Though the recently release Squid Game 2 left netizens furious over the sub-par climax, yet they are waiting with bated breath for the third season of the Lee Jung-jae starrer.

    What happened in Squid Game 2

    Season 2 of Squid Game started off from where the first season ended. It shows protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), sporting pink-dyed hair, all set to board a flight with his prize money and returns back as he decides to put an end to the deadly games. However, in the third episode of the season, he falls prey to the mastermind Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun) and finally decides to be back to the game to end once and for all. He enters the game and joins new players including his best friend, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan). The twist comes when the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) joins the competition as player 001 aka Young-il and joins hands with Seong Gi-hun and wins his trust, just to betray him towards the end of the last episode of the season. Gi-hun remains unaware of the betrayal. Will he be able to find out the truth and save other players of the deadly game? For that, we have to wait for next year which is said to be the finale season.

    When is Squid Game 3 releasing?

    Squid Game 3 is set to return for its final season in 2025. The release date is yet to be announced. However, series director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk has hinted that an announcement is expected “soon,” as the third season of Squid Game has already been shot.

    Hwang told Variety, “At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious,” and added, “But what I can say is, after season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for season 3 soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”

    As per Digital Trends, Netflix is likely to submit Squid Game Season 2 for the 2025 awards and might aim to submit Squid Game Season 3 for the Emmys 2026, which suggest that the third season might premiere on Netflix on June 1, 2025, so that it can qualify for the the Emmy Awards 2026.

    What to expect from Squid Game 3

    At the end of episode seven of Squid Game 2, a mid-credits scene confirmed the games will continue further in season 3. The mid-credits scene shows players entering the arena, and the infamous "Red Light, Green Light" doll returns- the girl doll now accompanied by a boy doll- both hinting that the game will be more deadlier and brutal than before.

    Hwang revealed that Jung-bae’s death was perfect to end season 2 and it was deliberately planned. “Audiences are definitely going to be shocked and very sad to see Jung-bae go,” he told Tudum. “He’s also the only person within the games that Gi-hun can trust and completely rely on,'' he added.
